About

 

Chris and Dawn have worked together since 2015, entertaining audiences over the last three seasons on more than 50 cruises and 100 performances on American Cruise Lines’ Queen of the West,  American Pride, and American Song riverboats. 

In addition, Chris and Dawn have performed at a variety of establishments throughout the northwest, including some of the region’s landmark entertainment venues—Arrivaderci Wine and Jazz, Vie de Boheme, South Fork, Grant House, Ilani Casino, Pleasant Harbor Marina, and others. 

Chris and Dawn are recognized for their precise vocal harmonies and arrangements, and for Chris’ musical and technical piano skills. Chris and Dawn have a large and diverse repertoire, and specialize in popular music from the late-50’s to the mid-70’s. Some of the best-known artists they perform include: Burt Bacharach, Petula Clark, The Carpenters, Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline, The Everly Brothers, The Mama’s and Papa’s, Frank Sinatra, Dione Warwick, and many more (see repertoire list on website). Besides their acumen for choosing popular songs, Chris and Dawn cover a wide variety of music from the American song book—including jazz standards, classic country, Motown, and old time Rock’n’Roll.             

Dawn Fitzgerald studied voice in Los Angeles with 2005 Latin Grammy Award nominee, Alba Quesada, and with Broadway icons Eileen and Walter Farrell in Hollywood. Dawn studied acting at the Pasadena Actors Workshop under the tutelage of Michael Murphy. Dawn’s performance venues include Radio City in Anaheim, the Icehouse in Pasadena, and the Mackinaw Island Summer Music Festival on Mackinaw Island, MI.    

Chris Baum has performed professionally throughout the United States, Canada and Europe. Chris studied classical piano at The Eastman School of Music (Rochester, N.Y), the Aspen Summer Music Festival (Aspen, CO), and The Manhattan School of Music (New York, N.Y.), and studied Jazz piano at The City College of New York (New York N.Y.) 

Chris received his Master’s degree in Conflict Resolution from Portland State University (Portland, OR). 


Chris worked as band Leader, band member, and soloist on more than 150 cruises, (and more than 300 performances) for Delta Queen Steamboat Company, Holland America Cruise Lines, and Colour Line Cruises out of Oslo, Norway. He was Musical Director for Hay City Theater’s production of Tony and Tina’s Wedding in Portland, OR and Baltimore, MD. Chris acted as Musical Director and Producer for Ghanaian Master Drummer, Obo Addy, and arranged his feature work for The Kronos String Quartet’s CD, Pieces of Africa, Washishijay (“Our Beginning”) on Elektra Records. Chris is currently the band leader, lead vocalist, keyboardist and arranger for the Portland-based Chris Baum Project, a.k.a. Kid Charlemagne, a 12 piece band that performs exclusively, the music of Steely Dan.  


Chris has studied, recorded, and/or shared stages with: Ron Carter, Joe Chambers, John Lewis, Lewis Nash; Boz Scaggs, Ry Cooder, Anthony Jackson, Victor Wooten and Steve Jordan; The Chiffons, The Drifters, and Nu Shooz; The Portland Youth Philharmonic and The Marylhurst Symphony orchestra. 

Chris’ performance venues include Portland’s Civic Auditorium, The Rose Quarter, Providence Park, Portland Zoo Concert series (Portland, OR.); CBGB’s, The Village Gate, and The Bitter End (New York, NY); Slim’s (San Fransisco), The Palomino Club (Los Angeles), The Belly Up (San Diego), and many more.
